My work

I am qualified as both a Maths and English teacher, but I currently tutor Life Orientation at a wonderful remedial school, which takes an entirely different look at education. I have come to look at education very differently while I've been there, and I have absolutely loved it.

At our school, we have chosen not to teach Life Orientation from a textbook, but to teach what is relevant to these students. It has been an inspiring experience for me, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It has been truly educational for both them and me. This is the first year that they are stepping away from their textbooks, and they have said that they have learned more in these few weeks than they have ever learned in Life Orientation. This tells me that we have achieved our goals.

I suffer from sever depression and anxiety, which has made teaching difficult, and is the reason that I had to leave main-stream schools. But as I see these students engaging and learning, I feel myself rising above that. I feel myself healing. For that moment, I feel like I am whole again, and I simply love teaching.

One of the most amazing parts of teaching is seeing a student's face light up as they understand something that they have been struggling with. Knowing that I can be a part of that process is such a blessing. If I can touch just one life in my life as a teacher, I will be grateful.
